Review the Food with an Ocean View - Sentido Norte Edition

We have been living in Costa Rica for 2 years and one of the first things people told us when we got here was, “You must try a dinner at Sentido Norte. You will love it.” It’s taken us forever to make it happen, and the pandemic closure didn’t help, but we made it for Christie’s birthday dinner.

This place does not disappoint. Casa Chameleon itself is a fabulous adults only hotel perched high on a cliffside right above Las Catalinas and Playa Danta. The views over the Pacific are breathtaking.

Enter straight through the hotel and find yourself transported to an exquisite garden filled with well manicured tropical flora and Balinese sculptures. All of this combines to create a captivating walk.

I must have stopped to take 30 photos before we even got out to the restaurant. Once there, the friendly and welcoming staff showed us to our seat and brought us fresh artisan cocktails.

My cocktail came in a coconut and it was delicious and fresh. Christie sampled the bourbon, as she does. There was a full house of people for sunset, but the seating is designed to mask any lack of space. It’s staggered, comfortable and gives everyone a lovely view of the main attraction, sunset.

As the sun lowers into the Pacific, the fires on the edges of the pool light up, flames dancing above the infinity edge. I’ve seen this effect on Pool Kings, but I’d never seen it in person. It’s a beautiful effect.

When the sun dips into the ocean, the audience shows appreciation with a round of applause. Shortly after the main show, we moved over to the restaurant side for dinner. It’s open and breezy, and you can see into the kitchen as the chefs prepare your meal.

We tried the ceviche and carpaccio to start and then, seafood and pasta for the main dishes. The chocolate terrine for dessert was right on time. Everything was yummy, prepared flawlessly and presented in perfect order. The staff is super professional and always friendly.

Thanks, Sentido Norte, for a beautiful evening - it was a fantastic way to celebrate my wife’s birthday. We’ll be back, and we’ll definitely send friends.
