Social Outings Pandemic Style – Beach Clean Up and Lunch Outdoors
Updated: Oct 23, 2020
When you are looking for something to do on a Saturday in the pandemic times, look no farther than the local beach or park or green space that might be in need of a little beautification.
Pura Vida With Kids reached out to a neighborhood family this week to see about getting together for a social bubble lunch and they suggested a beach clean up beforehand.
Our closest local surf beach in Playa Grande, like most of the beaches around us, has seen its fair share of debris washing down from the rain-swollen rivers.
Saturday was gorgeous weather so we slathered on the sunscreen, packed the perfect beach bag, and headed on over. Because the water is roiling and pretty dirty, we didn’t let the boys really swim, though there were plenty of surfers out taking advantage of the swell.
My clean up crew in action
Many families had the same idea and the beach had been pretty well cleaned up by the time we arrived at 10:00AM, but we persisted. Because so much large debris had been cleared we were able to work on the tiny pieces of plastic that you see in the featured photo above.
These tiny particles work their way into the ocean and then fish, turtles, and other sea creatures mistake them for food. It was awesome to be able to focus on this type of trash especially as this beach in particular is a turtle conservation area. Remember, even if you’re heading to the beach without the intention to join a beach clean up it is always cool to bring a trash bag for your own garbage and to pick up what you might see on the beach.
Succulents in various pots at Pots N Bowls
After a couple of hours in the sun, we headed over to new restaurant Casa Inti next to Pots-N-Bowls for a delicious vegan and pescatarian lunch. The ceviche was incredible and the boys really enjoyed the waffles and coconut pancakes with fresh fruit compote. Yum!
Get outside, do some good, and enjoy the rest of your weekend. Pura Vida.
